About Mahjong Solitaire

Mahjong Solitaire is a relaxing tile-matching puzzle game based on the classic Chinese game of Mahjong. Unlike traditional Mahjong, which is played with four players, Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player experience where you clear tiles from a layered board by matching identical pairs.

The game combines strategy, observation, and a bit of luck as you work to clear all 144 tiles from the board. With beautiful tile designs and satisfying gameplay, it's the perfect way to unwind and sharpen your mind.

How to Play

The goal is simple: remove all tiles from the board by matching pairs of identical tiles. However, not every tile can be selected. A tile is considered "free" and available for matching only when it meets these conditions:

  • No tiles on top: The tile must not have any other tiles stacked above it.
  • Free on at least one side: The tile must have either its left or right side completely open.

Click or tap on two matching free tiles to remove them from the board. Continue matching pairs until all tiles are cleared to win the game.

Tips for Success

  • Think ahead: Before making a match, consider how it will affect the tiles below and around it.
  • Prioritize stacked tiles: Focus on removing tiles from the highest layers first to reveal more options.
  • Watch for traps: Avoid matching tiles that will leave their identical partners blocked.
  • Keep sides balanced: Try to remove tiles evenly from both sides of the board to maintain flexibility.
  • Save your hints: Use hints strategically when you're truly stuck rather than as a first resort.

The History of Mahjong

Mahjong originated in China during the Qing dynasty and has been enjoyed for centuries. The traditional four-player game involves skill, strategy, and calculation. Mahjong Solitaire, the single-player tile-matching variant, was popularized in the 1980s with the advent of computer gaming and has since become one of the most beloved puzzle games worldwide.

The beautiful tiles feature traditional Chinese characters and symbols, including the suits of Dots, Bamboo, and Characters, as well as Winds, Dragons, Seasons, and Flowers. Each tile is a small work of art with deep cultural significance.
